Perhaps one of the most sought-after qualities that recruiters look for in a candidate is good decision-making skills. In business, decisions can make or break a project. And those in positions of power in the company often have to make crucial decisions on a daily basis. This is why it is a skill that almost all successful people have and to prepare your mindset for success, you have to work on being a quick decision-maker.
What happens to most people, when making decisions is that they tend to get too caught up in the pros and cons. They make up hypothetical situations in their head or think about all the ways something could go wrong. This is called Analysis Paralysis.
If you feel like you’re stuck in the analysis paralysis, there are a few ways to get out of it!
You can look at the situation objectively, from an outsider’s perspective. This will separate your emotions from your decisions because sometimes you can become too emotionally attached to your goals to make a rational decision.
Depending on the situation at hand, you can also do additional research on it before taking the first step. Remember that knowledge is power! But if you are still stuck following your research, then move one step forward and try out what would happen if you made a particular choice.
Also, evaluate if you are making a growth-oriented decision or a fear-oriented one. Ask yourself the question: “What if this works out?” and make decisions that will cause the least amount of regret in the future. The pain of failure is lesser than the pain of regret.
The key here is that you should always remain self-confident. Confidence helps people trust their instincts as well as themselves. This allows you to take care of the situation no matter how the result may turn out. So don’t be afraid to take risks and be bold.
When you strengthen your mindset, decision-making won’t seem so daunting. The uncertainty of it won’t affect you as you trust and believe in yourself and the Universe.
What eventually matters is not simply the decision itself, but the actions you take towards the goal. But if you are unable to even make a decision, then moving forward will be impossible.
Work on becoming a good decision-maker and prep yourself for the big opportunities that will surely come your way!
